SO, i finally got to see Elbow. What can i say, they thoroughly deserve the recognition they're getting right now. From what i saw last night they are worthy winners of the Mercury Prize, Best British Band Brit award and NME outstanding contribution to british music award. I went with my Dad and a couple of his mates, and truth be told it wasn't a young crowd. I am a whipper snapper, and although it wasn't like the mental crowds i'm used to, it was nice to attend a more ambient gig, where you could just appreciate the music without getting a pint poured over your head.

Guy Garvey has the most hypnotic and moving voice of any of the frontmen of the bands i've seen (minus Caleb, he's a bit unique vocal wise). He also has a nice amount of whitty banter he unleashes between songs, which made the experience much more welcoming and like the band actually wanted to perform, unlike some bands who seem like they couldn't care less. We also had a suprise appearance from local hero Richard Hawley, who came on to sing 'The Fix' with the band.

The Seldom Seen Kid is one of the greatest albums ever and although they performed some old ones which i was unsure about having not listened to their early early stuff, it was still the backbone of the night. It's a tough choice for best song, because all the songs were so gripping.

It was a fantastic way to start '09 in terms of gigs, and if you haven't seen them yet i suggest you do. If you've already booked tickets you're in for a treat.

I know this is a site about KoL but Elbow are simply amazing, and i want to know everybody else's reaction to the Bury band.

I agree with you entirely. They are amazing and their latest album is just unbelievable. Their songs are mesmerizing and beautiful. You are so lucky you saw them live. I would love to see them live someday. I live in Poland and I don't think they will come here. Maybe. "The loneliness of a tower crane drive" is just superb. I can listen and listen to it and never get bored. Actually, all songs from "The seldom seen kid" are brilliant: "Some riot", "Friend of ours"" Grounds for divorce" or "The bones of you". Great album and great band.

Greetings from Poland
