There is something about the music of Kings of Leon that grows on you. The way a new KOL fan is formed is unique and as unintentional is it may be, should almost be patented.

The first couple of times you hear the "big ballads" they go from alright to pretty good. If you are chancy
enough to seek out earlier works at this point you'll probably hate them thinking they sound raw, incongruent, and an immature version of themselves. The earlier vocals of Caleb are also manic or drugged out and seem sloppy.

That's okay. You're just not there yet.

After becoming nearly obsessed with Only By The Night, first with all the somebody's, sex and revelry you'll seem to quit hitting that skip button and begin seeking out all things Followill. After late night
hours spent on YouTube and,if you're a female, a few daydreams of what it would be like to be brick wall in the "Notion" video....you're hooked.

Now give the early stuff a listen. After you ask yourself for the fifteenth time "how did I listen to this song, and not hear THIS" you realize that drunken sloppy sound is both recorded history of an amazing journey and a raw artform of it's own that quickly leaves the new stuff "kind of pop-like for your taste".

It's complete, you're one of us. We'll even forgive you for only discovering them just now because we are so happy you finally get it.
It's taken them awhile To get to no.1 but if you're one of the growing army that got them there you realize the best relationships take time to develop and they've made followers... not just fans.

the rawness of the 1st album and the way they sing about teen sexual experiences, OBTN is the 1 for me, I can be lost for 45mins and return to this world smiling, every band has a different journey and if wwe depart then join them again well thats fine, love you lee x x x

I discovered the kings earlier this year after coming across "closer", after seeking band info out and more songs I came across "knocked up" and I've been a follower ever since. I love KOL, from Only By The Night to Youth and Young Man Hood and all the B sides in between. Simply an amazing band and I feel blessed to have discovered them and annoyed it took me so long.

A lot of the so called fans really need to read this to speed up the process from SOF back to the early years...the years of pure genius...... some fans don't know what they are missing although thumbs up to all those who listen and appreciate ......
