...as a follow up day to yesterdays blog..'10 Greatest Underrated albums'...here is a list I empiled of 11 really underrated single for those who can't be arsed listening to the whole album, but still fancies discovering new music from the greats...
As you can tell its the summer holidays and I'm bored.....haha, your welcome.
1. 'Roadrunner' by Modern Lovers.
Year of Release: 1972.
Album: 'The Modern Lovers'.
"And I say roadrunner once, Roadrunner twice, I'm in love with rock & roll and I'll be out all night"...'Roadrunner' is one the best single ever...It just captions teenage life in '76...driving around with nothing to do apart from listen to the radio and fall in love with rock and roll.
Modern Lovers, often cited by Bowie as 'the best band of the 70s' released this album in 76...the kids loved it, but yet again its the usual story...the popular music overshadowed it and pushed it back where it came from...that place of musical wonder, the garage.
So have a listen for your self......now.
2. 'My Way' By Sid Vicious.
Year of Release: 1978
Album: 'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle.
Ok the man cant sing to save his life...but f*ck me the raw power of this tune is brilliant.........Frank who?
3. 'Bangla Desh' by George Harrison.
Year of Release: 1971.
Album:...It was for charity.
In 1971 Ravi Shankar paid a visit to Georgie asking him to help his country which was in disaster....so George penned this single and organised one of the greatest concerts ever.
4. 'Flowers in The Rain' by The Move.
Year of Release: 1967
Album: 'The Move'.
The Very first song ever played on BBC Radio 1. This was a minor hit for the wonderfully flowery band 'The Move'....catchy as hell.
Oh yeah fact fans, the lead guitarist of The Move was Roy Wood...who went on to release that Christmas that gets played every f*cking day of Decemeber ...'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everday'.....Why?
5. 'Non-Alignment Pact' by Pere Ubu. 1978
Year of Release: 1978.
Album: 'The Modern Dance'.
As much as the name of this Band sounds like a cheesey French Lover, its infact an art punk band from Cleveland, Ohio.
This one is a weird one, its really accessible yet Avant Garde..the vocals are mental..literally, but I love it.
6. 'Hold Tight!' by Dave Dee, Beaky, Dozy, Mick and Tich.
Year of Release: 1967.
Album: 'Dave Dee, Beaky, Dozy, Mick and Tich'.
The Intro speaks for its self.
7. 'Victoria' by The Fall.
Year of Release: 1988.
Album: 'The Frenz Experiment'.
A classic Kinks cover....but better (if possible.........well it is).
8. '1969' by The Stooges.
Year of Release: 1969.
Album: 'The Stooges'.
Like 'Roadrunner' this song perfectly captures teenage life of thetime....and as the title suggest the year was '1969...ok?'
9. 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both of us' by Sparks.
Year of Release: 1974.
Album: 'Kimono My House'.
Kooky zoologist genius from The Mael Brother....P.S. one looks like Hitler, so if you need a reason to check it out then theres is one.
Hehehe....Hitler playing keyboards on 'Top of The Pops'...Brilliant.
10. 'Submission' by The Sex Pistols.
Year of Release: 1977.
Album: 'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols'.
Often overshadowed by the hit singles, its a masterpiece of raw aggression.....a punk love song?..well ish.
11.'Staring at the Sun' by TV on the Radio.
Year of Release: 2004.
Album: 'Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes'.
Its the classic story, a genuinely good modern band gets over looked because of Britney, La Roux...and er, I dunno...Mr. Blobby (still bought the single tho)....Tv on the Radio r excellent, and this is my fav song of theirs.
